The nylon plug is a fastening device made of nylon, with or without a collar, used in construction and in various installation projects. It is used mainly in solid materials, but it can also work in some hollow materials if the load is small or medium.
It is suitable for:
✅ Concrete
✅ Reinforced concrete
✅ Solid brick
✅ Natural stone
✅ Solid concrete blocks
It can also be used in:
✔️ Hollow brick – but the strength is lower than with a special plug for hollow brick.
✔️ BCA – only for light loads. For higher loads there are special plugs for BCA.
Not recommended for:
❌ Rigips (plasterboard) – here you should use Molly anchors, self-drilling anchors for drywall or toggle anchors.
❌ Very friable materials or thin boards.
How it works:
When you screw in the wood screw, the plug expands radially and locks by friction in the hole in the wall. That is why it needs a material that is strong enough around it.
In the picture you can also see the two “wings” on the sides, which prevent the plug from rotating in the hole while screwing.
For heavy loads
If you want to fix heavy objects (for example, wall cabinets, water heaters, large TV brackets), you should choose plugs specific to the wall material or metal anchors, not a universal plug.
For this type of plug, the diameter of the wood screw is chosen so that it deforms the plug enough to expand, but without cracking it or making it go in too hard.
The practical rule is:

How to check if the screw is suitable
Too thin → the plug does not expand enough and the fixing is weak.
Too thick → the screw goes in very hard, it can break the plug or crack the material in which it is mounted.
Right → the screw is driven in with moderate effort and the plug expands firmly.
A simple rule
The screw diameter is usually about 1–2 mm smaller than the outer diameter of the plug.
For example:
plug 6×40 → screw 4,5×45 or 5×50;
plug 8×50 → screw 5×60 or 6×60;
plug 10×60 → screw 7×70 or 8×70.
Screw length
The screw must be longer than the plug so that it passes all the way through it and also takes into account the thickness of the fixed part:
Screw length ≈ plug length + thickness of the part + 5–10 mm
For example, for a 8×50 plug and a 20 mm part, a 5×70 mm screw is a very good choice.
